COREY TAYLOR Talks About His 'Favorite OZZY Moment' (Video)
September 4, 2011Artisan News conducted an interview with SLIPKNOT/STONE SOUR frontman Corey Taylor on the red carpet of the August 22 special private preview in Hollywood, California of "God Bless Ozzy Osbourne", the feature-length documentary about the life of the legendary heavy metal singer that Ozzy Osbourne's son, Jack Osbourne, co-produced.
When asked why he says "God bless Ozzy Osbourne," Corey replied, "Because if it weren't for him, none of us would be doing this. He set the standard and all we do is try to live up to it."
Corey also spoke about his favorite Ozzy moment, which took place at his very first meeting with the legendary BLACK SABBATH frontman. "The first thing that Ozzy ever said to me, man, and this was insane, and it came out of nowhere I was sitting in catering with [Ozzy's wife/manager] Sharon and Jack and all the kids and everything and we were sitting there and Ozzy came out, and I was just like, 'Oh, my God.' And he goes, 'SLIPKNOT! I wanna be number 10!' [Referring to the fact that the members of SLIPKNOT adopted the numbers zero through eight as stage aliases. Ed.] And I went, [gasping for air in excitement] 'Anytime you want!'" Corey said. "That right there set the tone. He gave me a huge hug, and I was just like, 'Wow!' It was one of those things that makes you fortunate to meet the people that you looked up to and have every expectation be exactly what it was."
Regarding what makes Ozzy such an iconic figure in the rock world, Taylor said, "I think the thing that makes Ozzy so legendary is the fact that even after all this time, he still does it for the pure pleasure of doing it. Yeah, he makes a lot of money doing it, he's in amazing bands, he's gotten to play with so many amazing people, but he still goes out and performs and does it to the best of his ability because he loves to do it. It's one of those things that, as a fan and also as a frontman, you hope that you hold on to years later. The guy just loves entertaining the fans, loves having a good time on stage and he just lives for it."
